Why Wealthy People Buy Assets Most People Never See

The wealthiest investors often make money in places most people never look.

While everyone is debating which stock to buy or which crypto is trending, many wealthy individuals are investing in private businesses, private debt, real estate deals, infrastructure projects, commodities, and other assets that rarely make headlines.

A few days ago, I was sitting with an investor who pointed to two paintings hanging beside his chair. He told me they were worth over ₦3 million combined.

What struck me wasn't the price.

It was that he wouldn't sell them for ₦3 million if I offered it to him immediately.

To me, they looked like ordinary paintings that one could purchase off the hawkers in traffic on Alfred Rewane. But that's because I'm not a trained art collector.

He could see value where I couldn't.

And that's often how investing works.

The best opportunities are frequently hidden in places the average person doesn't understand well enough to appreciate.

The lesson isn't that everyone should run out and buy art. It is that wealth is often built through knowledge. The more you understand an asset class, the more opportunities you can see within it.

Sometimes the biggest investment opportunities are hiding in plain sight.

You just haven't learned how to see them yet.
